Our focus this month is around being kind to ourselves.
Lately, we have heard of several people in our lives feeling stuck. Stuck in a job, a relationship, a place in life, a physical location or circumstance, stuck. One of the most powerful ways to become “unstuck”, to elevate our mind, mood and creativity is by expressing gratitude or appreciation.
To appreciate something means that we are grateful for it. It holds a space in our lives and becomes an area of intentional focus.
To appreciate also means to increase in value. Think about a home, a rare painting, or a stock that has gone up in value. But these items don’t simply appreciate because of what they are, but because of the work and focus that goes into them. Painting or remodeling for example. A new addition, a fresh landscape. All work that creates added value.
This same principle holds for the eternal and intangibles in our lives. When we appreciate our friendships, we spend more time doing things that cultivate meaning in them. When we appreciate our spouse or family members, we exercise virtues of service, patience, and love. When we appreciate our health, we carve out time for exercise or meditation and become more intentional about the food, movies, books, or social media that we consume.
While it is true that we cannot do all things, we believe that being kind to ourselves means doing the best things with intention. What are the best things? The things that will hold the most value to each of us at the end of each day, month, and year.
If you, like many of us here at Do Good. Be Kind. reach for your phone first thing in the morning, we have some screen savers (Thank you, Rhi!) that you can save to your camera roll to help start your day off in a positive way.
This is just a small of saying, We appreciate You.
